The large, easy to use, touch screen control panel provides easy access to all the functions of the Benchmark TC9639. The user can simply start from the “home” screen and then select one of the graphical icons to immediately re-run the last program or they can enter the program library and select a program from there.  There is an easy to use wizard that will guide the user through the creation of new protocols and protocols that have been created can be saved, with an icon, for fast access when they are needed again. The screen is designed for ease of use. The display is large, clear and precise, and the touch screen options are large enough to be used when wearing gloves.

The program wizard was designed with input from users. It uses a single, easy to follow display that guides users through the complete process of setting up a new protocol. Once a protocol has been created, it can be saved as an icon for easy identification and use later. Saved protocols may also be edited by touching the icon and selecting the appropriate option. Increments of time and temperature can be built into programs, as can slower ramp rates when they are required. The system has a full virtual keyboard, which allows for the proper alphanumeric naming of both individual programs and the library folders that they are stored in. Storage is unlimited, because the system has a USB port, so flash drives can be used. Programs can either be saved in public folders that will be accessible to everybody, or they can be password protected.

The Benchmark TC9639 Thermal Cycler has a fully adjustable lid that is designed to prevent condensation and limit evaporation from samples. The lid temperature is programmable and, when the block temperature falls below 35°, the lid will automatically shut off. The heating and cooling of the block are precisely and accurately controlled. The system uses a proprietary algorithm, which simulates sample temperature and maintains an accurate temperature within exceptionally fine tolerance limits.

One of the outstanding design features of the Benchmark TC9639 Thermal Cycler is the multi format block, which eliminates the need for the expense of many interchangeable blocks. The single multi format block of the TC TC9639 has the flexibility to take 96 x 0.2ml tubes, a 96 well solid phase plate, individual solid phase strip or 39 x 0.5ml tubes. There is an in-situ adapter that can be used with slides and the unit can also be optionally purchased with a 384 well sample block.
