Differential Safety Hematology Blood Dispenser
The Differential Safety Hematology Blood Dispenser is designed to safely and consistently dispense blood specimens onto glass microscope slides. It is intended for manual white blood cell differentials.
The dispenser features a non-aseptic piercing needle that penetrates the rubber stopper of EDTA blood collection tubes (lavender- or pink-top tubes). This allows specimen access without removing the tube cap. Moreover, this closed-system design helps reduce specimen exposure and minimizes the risk of spills and aerosol generation.
To obtain a specimen, the dispenser is firmly pressed onto the collection tube’s rubber stopper. This allows the needle to pierce the closure. The tube is then inverted, and the dispenser is gently pressed against a clean glass microscope slide to dispense a controlled drop of blood. Subsequently, a second glass slide is then used to spread the blood into a thin, even smear suitable for manual differential examination.
The use of a safety blood dispenser provides several advantages, including:
- Reduces exposure to bloodborne pathogens by maintaining a closed collection system.
- Eliminates the need to remove the tube stopper during specimen sampling.
- Delivers a consistent blood drop size, promoting uniform blood smear preparation.
- Improves standardization and reproducibility of manual differential slides.
- Enhances laboratory safety while supporting efficient workflow.
